Local police to assist in World Health Day block party in Harriman
Harriman-Horizon Family Medical Group, a coalition of family care physicians will celebrate World Health Day with a block party outside the office of Dr. Joena Chan (at 33 Route 17M in Harriman) on April 24 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. The theme of this year's event is "Road Safety," as it applies to walkers, cyclists, and drivers of motor vehicles. Horizon's Group Practice Administrator Jim Olver said, "Orange County is full of great places to walk, bike and drive. And now that Spring is here, many people are going to want to get out and take stock of the incredible array of blossoms and foliage native to this area. Whether they are on foot, on two wheels, or in a car, we want to give them some tips to ensure their safety. We also want to give people a chance to meet their neighbors and have some fun. It's been a long winter: we feel a block party is a perfect way to usher in the new season." The Horizon Community World Health Day Block Party is free and open to everyone. The event will feature several compelling presentations by both Horizon physicians and staff and other organizations concerned with the community health and safety. The Harriman Police Department will host a Fingerprinting Station for children, and they will also present entertaining demonstrations (using an egg) on bike helmet safety. The Monroe Police Department will provide visitors with information on Car Seat Safety and conduct safety checks. Senior Driver Safety Class information will be on hand, and there will be a display on Railroad Safety set up in a mobile unit. NY State Police will also be there. To ensure that the World Health Day block party is as much fun as it is informative, there will be a live radio broadcast from the event. Refreshments, prizes, give-aways, and free drawings for car seats and bicycle helmets will be available.
