Chester — Connie Wehmeyer of Chester has been scheduled to speak at the New York State American Massage Therapy Association’s convention, to be held in White Plains from April 28 to 30. Wehmeyer, a licensed massage therapist, clinically certified aromatherapy practitioner, and owner of Subtle Energies Holistic Health Center, will be leading a eight-hour class and lecture on “Using Aromatherapy in Your Massage Practice.” The class will offer students continuing education units. “My goal,” stated Wehmeyer, “is to help other massage therapists learn how to use aromatherapy in their practice - using the correct pure essential oils, combined properly, and in a proper carrier. Using aromatherapy in a massage practice can enhance the practitioner’s ability to help clients.” When asked why she felt this was important, Wehmeyer cited that the synthetic products that are sold as aromatherapy often cause severe allergies, and do not have any clinically proven redeeming factors. Also, she explained, some firms, and especially multi- level marketing firms, are more interested in selling the products rather than training people to be good aromatherapists. Wehmeyer has passed the Jane Buckle Aromatherapy for Health Professionals program, in which the students learn how to use aromatherapy in clinical settings such as hospitals. She is also the author of “Aromatherapy and the Five Elements,” a book explaining how aromatherapy is used in traditional Chinese medicine. “I’m very excited about this opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with my peers. Aromatherapy and massage are two very important disciplines in the future of complementary medicine.” Subtle Energies is located at 1136 Kings Highway in Chester, in the Lake Station Plaza.
