Local Church to hold open mic night

WARWICK For the sixth time, Vision Community Church will be hosting an Open Mic from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29. The live event for local teens is held at the Warwick Valley Community Center and draws bands from the surrounding area. All proceeds send a volunteer team of youth and adults to a week-long WorkCamp mission trip each summer. Over the past two summers, Vision Community Church has sent teams of 25 and 26 teens and adults to both Utica and Canandaigua, New York for week-long volunteer work projects. This past summer the focus was the local Veterans Hospital in need of repair and visitation. “This years trip to Canandaigua was really hands on. Not only did we do a lot of physical work like in the years past but we spent a lot of time with people in veterans hospitals, nursing homes and summer camps for kids in need.,” said Pam Heatley, Director of Ministry at Vision. During Vision Open Mic, each of the five bands plays 20-25 minute sets. The $5 cover charge guarantees hours of well-supervised, high energy, live musical talent. Several bands have committed to performing at Vision Open Mic including Left to Chance, Submissed, Life Like in the Movies and Three Card Monte. The local merchant support has been strong, in the form of door prizes, and the teens have had a great time over the past year and half since the quarterly event first began. Musicians and merchants interested in participating may contact Caroline Beischer, coordinator, at 845-986-5883. Visit www.visiblechurch.org for more information.
