Local author to lead book discussion at Monticello Gaming and Raceway

Monticello Local author Charmaine Gordon will lead a book discussion at an afternoon tea on Feb. 7 at Monticello Gaming and Raceway. Gordon is author of “Once Again, Now,” published by Keene Publishing of Warwick. Gordon, an experienced theater and television actress, found herself at odds after her husband of 40 years died suddenly. Rediscovering herself at the age of 74, she now aims to share her story of growth and strength through her first novel. Gordon tells her tale through the suddenly widowed Kate Harris, 59, the heroine of “Once Again, Now.” Harris emerges from a dark year of mourning and tries to find her place in the world. Having always been the obedient and dutiful young lady, married to her first boyfriend right out of college, then mother to two, she never had time to just be Kate. Terrified and lonely, but determined to live again, Kate wonders how she will ever find the strength to overcome her fears. Can she learn to be an independent woman in this new and sometimes bewildering but potentially exhilarating world? Or will forces beyond her control derail her attempts to put her life back together? “A riveting tale of loss and the power of love to inspire growth; a real page turner,” said Jenny Kalsner, former Columnist, Canadian Flight Magazine and Ottawa Review. The event is from 1 to 3 p.m. and is open to the public. To RSVP or for more information, call 845-794-4100, ext. 600. Snow date is Feb. 9. Tickets $5 and include wine, coffee, tea and desert.
