Local artist to present clay sculpture demonstration

Warwick As part of the Warwick Art League Visiting Artist Series, Robert G. Bruer will demonstrate figural clay sculpting on Sunday, Nov. 5 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Senior Room of Warwick Town Hall, 132 Kings Highway. Using a volunteer from the audience, the artist will demonstrate his methods of sculpting a portrait head from clay. Cornwall artist Robert G. Bruer’s business of Antique Restoration woodworking often included the repair of broken and ornate wood carved segments, as they were frequently the most fragile and damaged areas. As his carving progressed, his skill grew into a speciality and a fascination with carving the human figure. He then studied sculpting in wet clay from the live model for nearly two years, while also completing two semesters in life drawing at PACE University and Westchester Community College. His work is aimed at creating sculpts in clay and then copying all or portions of them into wood or make molds from which to make waxes for bronze castings. His choice of woods is most often from fallen forest wood and drift wood found along the Hudson River’s edge. Robert is a Member of the Mid Hudson Woodcarvers Guild and the Hudson Valley Scuptors’ Society. He is currently represented at the Hudson Valley Gallery in Cornwall-on-Hudson and more of his work may be seen on the Web at http://homepage.net/com/rgbreur. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 845-987-8507.
