‘Living in a Material World’

NEWBURGH — The Center Arts Gallery at Kaplan Hall on the Newburgh Campus of SUNY Orange will host a wine and cheese reception on Friday, Jan. 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. to celebrate the opening of an exhibit featuring the work of nine artists who were trained in the United States or China and live and work in New York or Beijing.
Entitled “Living in a Material World,” the exhibit runs through March 29 and features the work of Gao Yuan, Cui Xiuwen, Cai Jin, Hu Bing, Mimi Kim, Xin Song, Nina Kuo, Feng Jiali and Hui Zhu. Patricia Karetzky from Bard College is the curator for the exhibit.
According to the college’s press release announcing the event, “Their works, done in a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, photography, paper cutting and video, address the identity of women and their role in society. More than that, the image of women appears as a symbol of the problems, challenges and beauty of contemporary society.”
