Warwick — Attracted to things that aren’t quite “normal” in Warwick and the vicinity? Always thought that a local home or property had an interesting way of being decorated? Felt a cold spot in a hot room of a haunted house? Caught a glimpse of a light streak through the sky that wasn’t a plane, satellite or meteor? If so, come to “Weird Warwick,” which will be presented by the Albert Wisner Public Library at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 27. Vernon, N.J. resident and writer Joanne Austin will present some of the weird people, places and things that you can find in the area, some of which has been featured in the book, “Weird New York,” by Chris Gethard, and others that have been included in the “Fringe” section of the magazine, “Weird N.J.” Austin will delve into folklore and fact and attendees will be encouraged to bring stories to share. Remember, not all history has to be serious and being “weird” can be a great thing! Austin won her first and, thus far, only literary prize — a giant, stuffed Mickey Mouse through an FAO Schwarz essay contest — at the age of seven. Since then, she has gone on to write for two extremes: the financial services industry and “Weird N.J.” At the latter, she has been a contributing editor and compiler of the magazine’s special edition, “Tales From Clinton Road.” She is also the compiler and editor of “Weird Hauntings: True Tales of Ghostly Places,” published in 2006 by Sterling Publishing. She enjoys a semi-bucolic life in the northwestern part of New Jersey, very close to the weirdness in Warwick. This program is open to all residents of the Warwick Valley Central School District. Registration is required. To register, call 986-1047 ext. 3.
