Warwick - Theresa Boswell will lead an origami workshop on Tuesday, May 22, at 6:45 p.m. at Albert Wisner Public Library. The workshop, open to young adults (12 and up) and adults, will entail creating the traditional peace crane and flapping bird. In the process, basic folds and bases will be learned for use in numerous other origami projects. Boswell is a jewelry designer and clay artist and also manages Bostree’s Gallery of pottery, jewelry and other handcrafts in Sugar Loaf. Boswell, who holds a B.S. in Art Education from SUNY New Paltz, has been making origami since she was a child. The craft took on new significance for her when hospitalized for a month in 2005 with a head injury. Origami, and specifically the traditional peace crane, became part of the healing experience; she made many cranes for the hospital staff and patients of the neurosurgery floor at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan. Since then, Boswell continues to make cranes daily, stringing them into mobiles for sale. Twenty percent of their purchase price benefits a brain injury or brain tumor organization. Registration is required. Stop by the Library Reference Desk, or call the Library at 986-1047, ext. 3.
