Lessons offered in Polka and Polish

    Pine Island — The Hudson Valley Polonaise Society will host a polka dance from 6-10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Polish Legion of American Veterans pavilion in Pine Island. Music will be provided by Tony’s Polka Band from Hagaman. Tickets are sold at the door. Children 16 and under accompanied by an adult are free. For those who'd like to polka but don't know how, the Polonaise Society will offer ten free polka lessons from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday evenings beginning Sept. 14 at the Polish Legion hall in Pine Island. You will learn the Bumpsy Daisy, Domino, Swing and Sway, Two-Step (also called Side-by-Side) Austrian Wedding Dance and the Hopak. The course will be taught by Richie Labanowski and Hilda Ellis. For adults who want to learn to speak Polish, ten language classes will be offered at 7:30 p.m. on Monday evenings beginning Sept. 19 at the CYO Building in Pine Island. Registration will take place at 7 p.m. on the first night of class. Youth Polish language classes for kids ages 7 to 15 will be held on ten consecutive Saturday mornings from 10 a.m.-noon beginning Oct. 1 at St. Joseph’s School, Glenmere Avenue, Florida.
