Lee Roy Parnell to play at Bodles

Chester — Bodles Opera House will present Lee Roy Parnell on Sunday, March 19, at 39 Main St. in Chester. Opening the show at 7 p.m. will be A. J. Swearingen. Parnell is among the elite few who are ace guitarists as well as distinctive singers and hit songwriters. In 1989, he became the second artist to sign with Clive Davis’ Arista Records’ new Nashville division. His eleven years with Arista resulted in six albums, garnering eleven top ten singles, with four making it to number one. He was awarded the Orville H. Gibson Guitar Award for best male guitarist in 1998. Parnell draws from a broad range of music sources. He has had two Grammy nominations, three CMA award nominations, earned two BMI millionaire songwriting awards, and received the Star of Texas award for preservation of Texas music. In addition to his own recording career, Parnell has lent his distinctive slide guitar to records by Trisha Yearwood, Mary-Chapin Carpenter, Delbert McClinton, Bob Seger, and CoCo Montoya, among others.
