Learn about the Eastern Bluebird, and plant wildflowers in gardens

Cornwall The Museum of the Hudson Highlands will present a number of events in June. On Saturday, June 3, “Nature of the Highlands: Experiences on the Land,” will be offered at 4 p.m. at Kenridge Farm on Route 9W in Cornwall. The event will be repeated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 17. Participants can learn interesting facts about the Eastern Bluebird, while building a nest box designed for bluebirds. The craft is designed for children ages five and older. A short hike will demonstrate how the bluebird lives (at the farmhouse if raining). Admission is $5 for children and $7 for adults, or $2 and $3, respectively, for members. A material fee is $10 per box. All tools will be provided. Pre-registration is required. On Sunday, June 4, the third annual Wildflower Sale will celebrate wild plants from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kenridge Farm on Route 9W in Cornwall. At 1 p.m., Sally Wortmann, retired teacher and avid gardener at the farm, will offer a wildflower walk. The event will be held, rain or shine. Visitors can spend time selecting just the right wildflower for their garden. The plants being offered are not only beautiful but assist wildlife in many ways. Gardeners of the area will offer tips for gardening. Most plants will be in quart containers, with prices ranging from $4 to $8. The money raised will go towards the museum’s educational programs. On Friday, June 10, and Saturday, June 11, from noon to 4 p.m., “Symbols of New York” will be open, at the museum’s Ogden Gallery on The Boulevard in Cornwall-on-Hudson. Interesting facts about state symbols will be included in an interactive exhibit, featuring the state bird, mammal, flower, and others. Visitors are encouraged to stop by the nature shop. The exhibit will extend through the month. For registration and information, call 534-5506 ext. 204.
