Landscape painting workshop to be taught by Susan Hope Fogel

Warwick — Award-winning Warwick artist, Susan Hope Fogel, will lead a plein air oil painting workshop sponsored by the Warwick Art League from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Sept. 15. (Rain date is Sept. 16.) Following a demonstration, all painters will receive personal instruction. This workshop is suitable for the beginner or more advanced painter. Emphasis will be on the use of color and value progressions in developing atmospheric effects. Classically trained in drawing at the New York Academy of Art in New York City, Fogel went on to do life studies at the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League, in New York City, before moving to Warwick in 1988. At that time the beauty of the surrounding land inspired a shift in her focus away from the figure. Further studies at the Ridgewood Art Institute with master painter John P. Osborne helped her to develop her craft in the plein air (outdoor painting) tradition, as well as north light painting of portraits, florals and still life. A feature article on her work, “Painting in North Light,” appeared in the June 2007 issue of the American Artist magazine. She is a member of the Pastel Society of America, the Hudson Valley Art Association, the Ridgewood Art Institute and the Warwick Art League. This past year she was accepted into the Copley Society of Art, in Boston, and won the Heat Wave Award, for a plein air painting, at the members’ Heat Wave exhibit. She exhibits in galleries throughout the Northeast. In Warwick, view her work at the The Dautaj and Zana D restaurants, as well as “Who’s on First?” She will participate in this year’s Warwick Artists Open Studio Tour the weekend of Oct. 13-14.
