Sugar Loaf — The Kings Youth Theater, a training program of the Kings Theatre Company at the Lycian Centre, is expanding its training program to include classes for beginners and advanced students. The ten-week program takes place in the evening in the Pavilion at the Lycian Centre. Workshops offered this spring include: A ten-week Ten Minute Play workshop begins March 6. The goal of this is to bring professional actors together with students to rehearse and present an evening of short plays. These will be open to the public and will be performed for two evenings in May. A monologue workshop begins March 8 at 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays and runs for six weeks. This is an individualized workshop in which students will rehearse short monologues for professional and college auditions. Paul Ellis will be directing both workshops. Students who have not taken a workshop will be interviewed about their past experience or may be required to audition. Movement for Actors workshop begins on March 8 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Linda Mensch of the Moving Company will be teaching this workshop. The workshop is designed for teens at any level. This is a good introductory workshop for beginning actors as well as those with experience. The objective of the theater program is to provide young people from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to participate in a theatre experience that will develop confidence, responsibility, teamwork, and a greater sense of self and community. All workshops provide an overview of the acting process and introduce students to the basic elements of acting.
