Jubilate youth choir to perform at Cathedral of St. John the Divine in Manhattan

WARWICK — Jubilate, the youth choir based at Warwick's Christ Church, has been selected by the Episcopal Diocese of New York, seated at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, to perform at the Episcopal Charities Tribute Dinner this Monday, Dec. 3.
The Cathedral of St. John the Divine is located at 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (112th St.) in Manhattan.
The annual black-tie gala begins with a reception at 6:30 p.m. followed by a dinner at 7:30 p.m.
"To be selected to perform at this gala," said Lisa Laico, a member of the Steering Committee of Jubilate, "is highly competitive and a huge honor."
She explained that a representative of the diocese, Deanna Varga, attended Jubilate's Spring 2018 concert in May, the day after Jubilate had entered and swept all seven categories in a youth choir competition at Hershey Park.
"Needless to say," said Laico, "Varga was hugely impressed. And Jubilate also submitted a video about the choir. Jubilate's and Christ Church's history with Episcopal Charities, combined with the choir's incredible talent, made them a natural fit for the event."
Although the choir was originally formed in 2006 at Christ Church, it is an inclusive program that welcomes musically talented youth from all area school districts and all faith traditions.
Having started in 2006 with a dozen singers, mostly from Christ Church, Jubilate is now composed of 62 students in Grades 5-12 from the Warwick, Goshen, Minisink and Monroe-Woodbury school districts. Raw musical talent, a passion to learn and a family's willingness to commit to the rehearsal and performance schedules are the criteria considered during auditions.
