Goshen— Jingle the bells and shake the reins, the popular winter program is about to begin at the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame. Available from November through February, this program introduces children to old-time winter fun. Students walk through the historic stable comparing common objects used in the 1700s and 1800s to items used today. They have the opportunity to sit in a real sleigh, watch Standardbred racehorses exercising on Goshen’s Historic Track, make a horse related craft to take home, and experience the thrill of a harness race on the museum’s very own 3-D Simulator. This program complies with the New York State Pre-K through 2 Grade Learning Standards. The cost of the program is $4 per student. Teachers and chaperones are admitted without charge. Reservations are required. The Harness Racing Museum offers educational programming throughout the year. “Rolling Through Time - The History of Transportation” for grades 3 to 5; “Why We Are Friends” - a focus on basic needs and nutrition for grades K to 3; “New York Firsts,” - a state history program for grades 3 to 5; “Through the Eyes of Currier and Ives” - a historical art program for grades 1 to 6; and “Own Your Own Horse” a program emphasizing practical mathematics for grades 6 to 10.
