New Windsor — Jazz saxophonist Gary McCourry will collaborate with local musicians on Sunday, June 3 at a 5 p.m. concert of compositions by the Thelonious Monk. For this performance, McCourry has arranged several Monk pieces for jazz sextet. The concert will take place at King of Kings Lutheran Church in New Windsor. Performing on soprano, tenor and baritone saxophones, McCourry will be assisted by Josh Economy on trumpet, Eric Ordway on trombone, Scott Arcangel on piano, Brandon Nelson on bass and Tom Cunane on drums. Thelonious Monk was one of the most prolific jazz composers of the 20th Century. He was one of the founders of the bebop movement during the 1940s and 1950s. Monk was highly respected by other musicians, who continue to explore his compositions today through performance in ensembles ranging from small combos to jazz orchestras. King of Kings Church is located at 543 Union Avenue, next to the New Windsor Town Hall. A freewill offering for the Habitat for Humanity organization will be collected.
