Jazz Knights to perform with vocalists Joe Francis and Rob Zappulla
West Point The United States Military Academy Band’s Jazz Knights will continue the “Music Under the Stars” concert series with “A Tribute to the Vocalists” at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 23, at the Trophy Point Amphitheatre. The Jazz Knights will feature two guest vocalists, Joe Francis and Rob Zappulla, along with selections by Sgts. 1st Class Laura Bradley and MaryKay Messenger. This concert is a rescheduled event, which was canceled due to rain on June 25. Rob Zappulla is from Connecticut and originally studied trumpet at the Hartt School of Music in Hartford. He has toured and opened for many groups including The Shirelles, The Temptations, Tower of Power, The Drifters and Little Anthony, to name a few. Rob is the current vocalist for the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and performs regularly, both nationally and internationally. Joe Francis was also born in Connecticut and honed his craft with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. He studied voice under Vera Mazel and Maria Farnsworth. He has enjoyed success on both sides of the Atlantic, appearing on BBC Television with the BBC Big Band and with successful tours both in the U.S. and Europe, which included the Wigan Jazz Festival in the U.K. Allow extra time for inspections at the gates.
