WARWICK — On the evening of March 8, the community room at the Albert Wisner Public Library was filled to capacity.
The audience was there to join Barry Wiesenfeld, Brian Conway and Tim Harte on a musical journey from Ireland to America.
The collaboration assembled by Wiesenfeld was not a traditional band.
It was simply "Barry, Brian, Tim, and an evening of Irish music and stories"
But these were also no ordinary musicians.
Wiesenfeld is an award-winning bassist who has been involved in Irish Music as well as other genres, for decades.
During those years he shared stages and/or recorded with Carl Corcoran, Tommy Makem, James Keane and other notable names including opening for The Chieftains at Carnegie Hall.
Wiesenfeld has performed on three continents, toured in Ireland and played with Grammy-winning artists.
His bass lines were recently part of a project itself nominated for a Grammy award.
Wiesenfeld also teaches music for SUNY and Ramapo College and he is a published author.
Brian Conway is an internationally recognized fiddler who has won numerous All-Ireland fiddling competitions, and has been called one of the best fiddlers of his generation.
Conway lives in the tri-state area but regularly does tours and appearances abroad.
Aside from his ability to perform brilliantly with all the nuance and sensitivity Irish traditional music demands, he is steeped in knowledge about its history, which he shares with his audiences.
Tim Harte, an acoustic guitarist and vocalist, grew up in the world of Irish music.
He said that his father would sing songs to him, and the culture is in his blood.
Harte tells stories and sings traditional Irish songs with an authenticity and sincerity that clearly comes through to his listeners. He has appeared at more than 100 venues in the region.
The performance the band did at the Wisner Library was their maiden voyage.
While they've played together in other combinations in the past, this was the first time this trio hosted an evening of Irish music and stories.
The Warwick performance was followed the next day by an appearance at the Poughkeepsie library to a standing-room-only crowd of about 200 fans.
