Investigate mystery writers at your local libraries

Chester Public Library Chris Forman, author of the Maria Hart mystery series, will give a mystery writing workshop for young people from 4 to 5 p.m. on Monday, July 16, in the senior citizen center (located in the back of the Chester Public Library at 1784 Kings Highway). No experience with mystery writing is needed for this informal, library-sponsored workshop for youngsters ages 11 to 18. Like all other summer activities at the library, the workshop is free, but advance registration is required. Forman is a veteran teacher at a high school in Orange County. “Dead Men Don’t Jog” was his first entry in the Maria Hart mystery series. Goshen Public Library The Summer Sleuthing @ Your Library lecture series continues in Goshen with presentations by two local mystery writers. M.J. Goff of Monroe will talk about her new work, “The Bench,” from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. on Monday, July 23, in the library’s meeting room, located at 203 Main Street. James Magee of Goshen will give his presentation from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, in the library meeting room. Magee wrote the thriller “To Serve and Protect,” much of which was set in his hometown of Goshen. Copies will be available at the presentation. Magee will also talk about his new novel. In keeping with the “Sleuthing” theme, the library will also offer “Mystery Movie Madness,” from 6 to 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, in the library meeting room. “Fletch” (rated PG) stars Chevy Chase as Irwin “Fletch” Fletcher, an investigative reporter for a Los Angeles newspaper. His latest case is posing as a junkie to uncover a drug traffic ring and investigate a shady businessman. Snacks will be available. No registration is required, and admission is free. The library’s “Magical Mystery Tour” is now ongoing and runs through Aug. 8. Visit www.goshenpubliclibrary.org to answer questions about the library.
