Hybrid corn trial field meeting on Aug. 24
SLATE HILL A hybrid corn trial field meeting will be held from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24, at the Bergen Farm, 93 Bergen Circle Road, in Slate Hill. The purpose of the meeting, which is open to all field crop farmers, is to view ten hybrid corn varieties and to demonstrate how to look for corn and alfalfa insect pests and weeds to learn how to control them. There will be 3.0 pesticide recertification credits available for categories 1A, 10, and 21 and 2.25 credits available for category 23. Bring pesticide certification number to register for the credits. This meeting is sponsored by Monsanto. There is no charge for the meeting and lunch will be provided. Monsanto field representative Curt Cooper will discuss the new corn varieties in the trial. Ken Wise, the Eastern New York State Integrated Pest Management Program educator from Cornell Universitym will discuss corn rootworm and potato leafhopper, and Cornell Cooperative Extension Dairy Science Educator Larry Hulle will discuss the hybrid corn trial weed and insect control.
