Hudson Valley RibFest connects with barbecue lovers

NEW PALTZ - When word got out last year that barbecue had “arrived” in New York State’s Hudson Valley by way of the first Annual Hudson Valley RibFest, enough people attended that vendors had trouble keeping up with the crowds. This year, the Highland Rotary, event sponsors, are hoping for a bigger response as it promotes a weekend of family-style entertainment Aug. 18, 19 and 20 at the Ulster County Fairgrounds in New Paltz, exit 18 on the New York State Thruway. Field admission is $5. Children under 12 enter free of charge. This year’s presenting sponsor is Hannaford’s. Other event sponsors include John J. Lease, M&T Bank, the Mid-Hudson Valley Credit Union, and Vassar Brothers Hospital In addition to the KCBS-sanctioned barbecue competition, this year’s RibFest will offer a venue for vendors selling barbecue-related items. Some of nationally known grillers will give a demonstration, passing along some barbecue pointers.
