Come to multisensory exhibit of native flora and fauna Cornwall - The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum will be hosting the Grand Opening of the Living Hudson Exhibit at the Museum’s Wildlife Education Center, 25 Boulevard, Cornwall-on-Hudson, on Saturday, Oct. 20, and Sunday, Oct. 21, from 12 until 4 p.m. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. The grand-opening weekend will feature crafts for kids, fish shaped snacks, a scavenger and a special “Meet the Animals” on each day at 2:30 p.m., that will focus on the animals for whom the new exhibit is now home. The living Hudson Exhibit is a multisensory experience full of the flora and fauna native to the Hudson Estuary. Visitors can follow the journey of water to the river as it trickles down a highland creek into a wetland pond and watch as the pond empties into a freshwater stream, which then joins the Hudson River Estuary. This interactive exhibit allows visitors to: search the waterfall for Green frogs and Pickerel frogs, locate painted turtles, search for crayfish and schools of minnows in the freshwater stream and feel the shells and fossils that are imbedded in the surrounding rocks. This exhibit was made possible thanks to generous grants from the New York State Hudson River Estuary Program and the Hudson River Improvement fund. Exhibit designer, Gregory George and his crew from PetraWorks, Inc. have created an amazing three-dimensional exhibit that recreates a remarkable journey in the watershed of the Hudson Highlands. This is a great opportunity for photographs. If you are planning to attend, please contact Marian Goldin at 845-534-5506, ext. 202, mgoldin@hhnaturemuseum.org.
