How the Hudson won the war

Middletown The Hudson River has been nicknamed “The America’s Rhine” because of its natural beauty. The United States Congress has declared it a National Treasure and has designated it as one of the American Heritage Rivers. In addition to these honors, the Hudson played an important role in the American Revolution. Colonel James M. Johnson, PhD. (U.S. Army, Retired) will present the lecture “Strategic Points on the Hudson River during the American Revolution” at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, at Morrison Hall Mansion, located on the campus of Orange Community College in Middletown. Colonel Johnson is military historian of the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area and executive director of the Hudson River Valley Institute at Marist College. He will deliver his talk in a period military officer’s uniform. Attendees will receive Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area brochures detailing the Revolution’s strategic points and other historic sites in the Hudson Valley. This presentation is part of the college’s Lyceum Lecture Series and is free and open to the public. Morrison Hall Mansion is located at 115 South Street.
