Hops, history and hospitality

WARWICK — The Warwick Historical Society will again host "Hops and Hospitality," a fund raiser featuring handcrafted foods and beverages, on Saturday, April 5, from 6 to 9 p.m.

The evening begins with tours of Baird’s Tavern, guided by Michael Bertolini, curator for the historical society. Tours will be available from 6 to 7 p.m.

Afterwards, take a short walk across the street to the A.W. Buckbee Center at 2 Colonial Ave., which will be transformed into a candle-lit tavern. Traditional handcrafted foods and beverages will spice up an evening of fun and fellowship. Fetch, Halligan’s, the Blarney Stone and Noble Pies will provide foods with their usual flair. Members of the society also will fill a buffet to overflowing with their favorite dishes.

The Mistucky Creek Brewers will be on hand to offer a taste of their finest while Theo Michelfeld’s solo performance will provide the rhythm of instrumental jazz standards.

And Rarmapo College Professor Jim Morley will answer these important questions:

What was brewing like in 1786?

What was being served at Tavern Night in the 1700’s?

How did George Washington’s experience at Baird’s Tavern differ from yours?

First responders honored
Tavern Night at the Buckbee Center also will honor the first responders in the Town of Warwick. "These men and women make history every single day." The historical society said in its press release announcement the program. "They give so many of us a future and that provides all of us with the time to make history."

The historical society is offering a 50 percent discount to Warwick’s emergency medical personnel, firefighters and police officers as a way of saying thank you for their service.
