BLOOMING GROVE — A new stained glass window has been installed in the historic Blooming Grove United Church of Christ, commemorating all who have served in the United States armed forces since Word War 1.

The only other window in the church was installed after the First World War. The new window is integrated stylistically with the old to appear timeless in its setting, while honoring all who served in the U.S. Coast Guard, the National Guard, the Merchant Marines, the Department of the Air Force, the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army.

The new window was designed, fabricated and installed by the Downs-Behle Studio of Warwick. The church’s outreach efforts for returning veterans was emphasized during the dedication ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 3,

The Blooming Grove Church is historically and architecturally significant. It was founded in 1758 and built in 1824. It is a plain white Federal style building, notable for lacking the steeple or cupola commonly found on churches. In 1996 the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The church is located at the junction of Old Dominion Road and Route 94 in the Town of Blooming Grove, between the villages of Chester and Washingtonville.
