Holiday sale to aid mission projects among the poor

Harriman In an effort to alleviate world poverty, the Harriman United Methodist Church will host a “A Greater Gift” sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 15 Church St. in Harriman. The sale will feature fairly-traded handcrafts from artisans in developing regions around the world. All of the crafts to be sold at the sale are hand-made by artisans from 35 countries around the world, including underprivileged parts of the U.S. Items for sale will include jewelry, Christmas items, musical instruments, and home accessories. The sale is in partnership with SERRV International, who sponsors “A Greater Gift.” Every purchase directly helps improve working conditions and access to healthcare and education for the artisans and their families, by offering them fair wages for their crafts. Also featured will be “Mozamboutique,” a selection of hand-crafted items made from fabric from the south African country of Mozambique. Proceeds from these items will go toward mission projects in that country. For more information, call 986-0819.
