Hike-a-thon' to inaugurate new trails on Kenridge Farm
CORNWALL Hikers of all ages should circle Saturday, May 19 on their calendars. That’s the day the Museum of the Hudson Highlands will host its first-ever Hike-A-Thon, on its 177-acre Kenridge Farm property on Route 9W. “Over the past two years, we’ve created some wonderful trails through the woods and wetlands,” said Museum Director Jackie Grant. “The Hike-A-Thon is the perfect way to introduce them to the public and help raise money for our many nature education programs, at the same time.” Hikers can choose from the very easy Pond Trail to the moderately challenging Hiking Trail, with many options in between. The longest hike is about an hour-and-a-half, and the shortest about 30 minutes. “The Hike-A-Thon will be a fun way for our Museum members and their friends to get together, enjoy nature, and help the Museum too,” Grant said. “It’s also a great opportunity for scouts, schools and outdoor groups to work toward badges and enhance their educational curriculum.” Group warm-up exercises will start at 9 a.m. and after brief welcoming remarks, the hikers will set off by 9:30. The trails will be supervised until noon, giving everyone a chance to enjoy a beautiful day outdoors. The Museum’s Annual Wildflower Sale will be held on the same day. Further details about the Hike-A-Thon and how to form teams are available at the Museum and on the Museum’s Web site, www.museumhudsonhighlands.org, or via telephone at 845-534-5506, x204.
