Harness Racing Museum to hold scrapbook workshop
Goshen The Harness Racing Museum’s Education Department is offering a scrapbooking workshop from 10:30 am. until noon on Saturday, Sept. 9, to introduce young people to this art form. Children from four to 13 are invited to peek at the museum’s scrapbook collection and to create a personal book to chronicle the new school year’s special memories by designing, cutting and sticking images of school buses, flags, word art, horses and picture frames. A memory game will be played after which all participants will pretend to be a harness driver on the famous 3-D Simulator ride. The cost is $5.00 a child, which includes one free accompanying adult. Reservations are requested by Friday, Sept. 8 and may be made by calling 294-6330. Please note that space is limited for this very popular class and early reservations are suggested. The Harness Racing Museum in Goshen maintains a large collection of nineteenth and early twentieth century scrapbooks. Scrapbooking was and continues to be an extremely popular hobby. The museum’s scrapbooks are full of interesting historical information, mostly on the early days of harness racing. Compiled by devotees of the sport, they were often exclusive to one subject, whether a famous driving star or a fast Standardbred horse, renowned breeding farm or historic race track. The Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame is located at 240 Main St. in Goshen and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m, April through October.
