Goshen — Local guitar instructor Mark Sly will reveal “The Secrets and History of the Guitar” in a free two-hour presentation at the 1841 Goshen Court House, 101 Main St., in Goshen, this Saturday, July 7, at 10 a.m. The presentation will cover both acoustic and electric guitars. Sly encourages guitarists to bring their instruments, along with their questions. A graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, Sly started playing professionally at New York City clubs like CBGB’s. He was signed to a production deal with Dreamworks Records in the New York City area, and then hired by Fuji Bank, which was located on the 81 floor of World Trade Center, Tower Two. Transferred to the 48th floor of Tower One, just prior to 9-11, he escaped being struck by the second plane in the terrorist attack that destroyed the skyscrapers. In October 2001 he relocated to his hometown of Warwick and began offering guitar lessons. His pay-as-you-go, no-contract lessons quickly gained him legions of dedicated students and turned into a full-time business. His first guitar instructional DVD, “Mark Sly’s Secrets Guitar Teachers Don’t Want You To Know!” is available at www.slymarkmusic.com. The DVD explains the secrets guitarists have used for years.
