West Point — The United States Military Academy Band’s Jazz Knights will present a concert with guest drummer Billy Cobham at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, in Eisenhower Hall. The Jazz Knights will feature Cobham on a number of his original tunes arranged by Scott Stroman, including “Conundrum,” “Crosswinds” and “Stratus.” Drummer Dennis Mackrel has also written a composition to premiere with Cobham for this performance. Also appearing will be the West Point Christian Fellowship Praise Team. The seven member vocal group will perform gospel renditions along with the Jazz Knights in celebration of African-American Heritage Month. For over 30 years, Cobham has received acclaim for his skills as a percussionist, but he is also an accomplished composer and record producer. Hundreds of recordings - with his own groups, and some of music’s most luminary artists - bear his trademark of big, fast, explosive drumming. Cobham’s artistry has energized international stages of concerts, symphonies, big bands, Broadway, jazz festivals, television and video. He also shares his knowledge of the craft with drum clinics, conducting workshops and symposia around the globe.
