Greenwood Forest Association presents its third annual BBQ
Warwick The Greenwood Forest Farms Association will present it’s “Third Annual Summer Barbeque,” titled “A Time To Give Back,” from 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday Aug. 4, at the home of Dolores Vanison-Blakely, 191 Nelson Road, Warwick. The event is titled “A Time To Give Back” because the organization wants to thank all of its members, supporters and friends for their continued support over the past three years and thus the suggested admission is only $10 per person. Children free. The event will be an old- fashioned hamburger, hot dog, chicken and salmon barbecue, and all are invited to attend. There will be a poetry reading of the works of Greenwood Forest Farms’ most famous resident, Poet laureate Langston Hughes, a mime concert and the now much heralded walking tour of the Greenwood Forest Farms community and a talk on the history of the community and the current workings of the organization. Greenwood Forest Farms was founded in 1919 during the period of segregation by African-American families from New York City as the first African-American vacation resort in New York State. It was and has been throughout its 87-year history home to many African-American cultural, artistic, business and civic leaders, including Hughes. Greenwood Forest Farms is located in the Town of Warwick, just outside the Village of Greenwood Lake. For information on the association, call the secretary of the organization, Paul Kwame Johnson, at 986-5980 or log on to www.greenwoodforestfarms.org.
