Gould art featured on cover of Purple Heart magazine

New Windsor “Peace 1783” by artist John Fleming Gould (1906-96) is the cover art for the July/August issue of Purple Heart magazine, the official publication of the Military Order of the Purple Heart of the USA, Inc. The artwork features George and Martha Washington on horseback at Washington’s Headquarters. Its publication coincides with the 225th anniversary of the establishment of the Badge of Merit (Purple Heart). In celebration of the anniversary, now in its diamond jubilee year (1932-2007), the Military Order of the Purple Heart is holding its annual convention in Tarrytown from Aug. 5 to 11. On Tuesday, Aug. 7 conventioneers will travel to Washington’s Headquarters in Newburgh for a morning visit. In the afternoon the conventioneers will go to the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor at the New Windsor Cantonment for a special ceremony. John and Mary Gould founded the Bethlehem Art Gallery, now celebrating its 50 anniversary. For more information about the “Peace 1783” print is available at 496-4785 or at www.bethlehemartaallerv.com.
