Goshen student nominated for county award

    GOSHEN-Tom Kohn, a seventh grade student at C. J. Hooker Middle School in Goshen, has been nominated for the annual Orange County Youth Bureau Youth Award for outstanding citizenship, volunteerism, and leadership. Tom is involved in student government and served as secretary while in the sixth grade. He manages the girls' softball team and participates in several focus group fundraisers, including canned food drives, which are held throughout the year. Tom helped lead the school's tsunami relief efforts by assisting with a bake sale and "Wear Your Hat Day." He is also a member of the Boy Scouts, where he participates in different volunteer efforts and recently helped clean the Slate Hill Cemetery. He was nominated for the award by the staff and faculty of the C. J. Hooker Middle School.
