Goshen artist presenting watercolor demonstration at SUNY Orange

MIDDLETOWN — Visual artist Linda Barboni is presenting a watercolor demonstration during the reception for the Middletown Art Group’s 2014 Spring Exhibition. This will take place in Orange Hall Gallery on Sunday, May 18.

To complement the demonstration, during which she will explain her concepts and techniques in watercolor, an exhibit of Barboni's works is on display May 9 through June 18 in Orange Hall Gallery Fringe. Entitled "Eclectic Linda - paintings by Linda Barboni," the show includes landscapes, still lifes, and florals and are mostly watercolors plus a few pastels. She explains that she loves watercolors because of the loose-flowing spontaneity of pigment moving with water. Interestingly, this looseness is still present in her pastels as well.

Barboni, a resident of Goshen, earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from the School of Visual Arts, New York City. She has designed books and logos, and worked on corporate identity and most recently, interiors. She has given watercolor workshops at Cornell University and taught for many years at several galleries in the Hudson Valley. Her pieces are included in a number of private collections in Europe and South America and throughout the United States.

As an active member of North East Watercolor Society, Garrison Art Center, Pascack Art Association, Orange County Arts Council, and the Middletown Art Group, she has exhibited widely in many solo and group shows. Some past exhibits include New York Botanical Gardens, Cork Gallery at Lincoln Center, and Applewood Winery in Warwick.

The exhibit is at SUNY Orange and starts at 2:40 p.m. on Sunday, May 18. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday. The college is closed on Memorial Day weekend and Fridays in June.

Orange Hall is located at the corner of Grandview and Wawayanda Avenues on the Middletown campus of Orange County Community College.
