Middletown — Dance music from past and present will be featured when the SUNY Orange Symphonic Band kicks off its spring concert schedule, at 8 p.m., on Friday, March 16, with its show, “Go for Baroque ... and Dance!” The show will also mark the band’s first performance at Middletown’s Paramount Theater, 17 South St., under a collaborative agreement between the City of Middletown and the college. The band, comprised of students from Orange County Community College and members of the community from middle school age to senior citizens, is under the direction of Kevin Scott. Selections for this program include transcriptions of Handel’s “Water Music,” Norman Dello Joio’s “Satiric Dances,” and Ravel’s “Boléro,” in addition to other works by John Cacavas, Morton Gould, Archangelo Corelli and Georg Philip Telemann. Admission to the concert is free, but the Arts and Communication Department is suggesting a $5 donation at the door. For additional information, contact the Arts and Communication Department at 845-341-4787. The band’s next spring concert will be held at 8 p.m., April 28, also at the Paramount. Local musicians interested in playing in the band should contact Scott to arrange an audition. Scott is particularly interested in musicians who can play flute, clarinet, trumpet and percussion instruments. The band meets from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, at the Paramount. All musicians are invited to participate, but must have their own instrument.
