Sugar Loaf — Kings Theatre Company will present a fresh production of “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, at the Lycian Centre for the Performing Arts on King’s Highway in Sugar Loaf. The musical follows the mad-cap adventures of chorus girl Lorelei Lee, a role made famous on Broadway by Carol Channing in 1949, and on screen by Marilyn Monroe in 1953. Set in the roaring 1920’s, a fun-loving and hedonistic gold-digger Lorelei Lee sails aboard the Ile de France to Paris with her chum Dorothy Shaw. The score offers melodies that evoke the fancy-free age of the late twenties, like “A Little Girl From Little Rock,” “Just A Kiss Apart,” “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,” and, of course, “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend” - just a few of the gems from the collaboration of Jule Styne and lyricist Leo Robin. This performance is produced by Windwood Productions, and directed and choreographed by Paula Hammons Sloan. Windwood produced the national tours of “Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” Barry Manilow’s “Copacabana,” “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” and “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.” Tickets are $45 for adults and $33.75 for youth under 19. To purchase, call 469-2287 Tuesday through Saturday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
