WARWICK — The Friends of the Albert Wisner Public Library will be distributing free, specially printed books on Monday, April 23, as part of the first U.S. World Book Night.

Launched with great success last year in the U.K. and Ireland, World Book Night U.S. is an ambitious campaign to give away half a million free books in 6,000 towns and cities across America from Kodiak, Alaska to Key West, Florida. Volunteer book lovers will help promote the joy of reading by going into their communities and handing out free copies of a book they personally selected.

U.S. book publishers and printers paid for the creation of these special editions and authors waived their royalties in order for the event to take place.

Twenty-six local volunteers were able to choose their book from a list of diverse titles and each will be given 20 copies to distribute – that’s more than 500 free books.

Look around Warwick on April 23 and see if you can spot one of the volunteer book givers at locations such as hospitals, local merchants, community centers and elsewhere around town.
