Florida — The Friends of the Florida Public Library will sponsor their annual used-book sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 14 and 15, in the Seward Senior Center next to the library. Prices will range from .50 to $5, for lightly-used to brand-new adult and children’s books, plus video, audio, DVD and CD selections. All proceeds of the sale will benefit the library’s programs and services for the community. The current focus is to raise funds for new library computers. A special preview sale will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13. Admission to the preview is free for paid members. Non-members may attend by purchasing a yearly membership for $10 at the door. Friday evening activities will include a showing of a Japanese anime film at 6 p.m. for students in grade 6 and up. Admission is free and refreshments will be served. As well, adults can enjoy a free dessert table and a display of newly arrived fiction, non-fiction, books-on-CD and DVDs. Library staff members will be on hand to discuss titles and offer suggestions for reading and listening pleasure. Donations for the book sale can be brought to the senior center during the sale, or dropped off at the library during business hours. All items should be clean, in excellent condition, and in boxes. Encyclopedias, textbooks, condensed books and damaged books will not be accepted. Receipts are available upon request. Residents who wish to volunteer to help with the sale should call 651-1062. Students in need of community service credits are welcome to volunteer, and will be provided with a letter confirming the number of hours worked. Throughout the weekend sale, browsers and shoppers can purchase a $1 ticket for a chance at winning a homemade apple pie. Brownie Girl Scouts will be on hand Saturday and Sunday to take orders for Girl Scout cookies, which will arrive in March. Florida Public Library, located at 4 Cohen Circle, is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and closed Sunday.
