| 07 Mar 2019 | 01:37

    — The Florida Public Library will host cartoonist and graphic novelist Gregg Schigiel on Friday, March 15.
He will make two presentations in the morning at Golden Hill Elementary School to fourth and fifth graders.
In the afternoon, he will speak with middle school students at S.S. Seward Institute.
At 2:30 p.m., Schigiel will be at the library for a brief discussion on his books and his work writing and drawing comics and graphic novels.
A short question and answer session will follow the presentation along with a book signing. Books will be available for purchase.
The program is open to students in fourth grade and up and was funded, in part, by the Friends of the FPL.
    Refreshments will be served.
Schigiel is the creator, author and illustrator of the Pix graphic novels, which feature teenager Emaline Pixley, aka Pix, a girl with super powers which she attributes to being a fairy princess.
Reviewers have praised Pix as a strong and relatable role model for younger teens. Pix is a heroine with a realistic body image who tries hard to be a good friend to people and animals.
Schigiel was a regular contributor to the SpongeBob Comics, wrote the "X-Babies: Stars Reborn" graphic novel for Marvel Comics and has worked for Nickelodeon, DC Entertainment, and Disney.
He publishes original works and audio podcasts.
Beyond comics, Gregg likes donuts, enjoys comedy, bakes prize-winning cookies and makes sure he drinks plenty of water.

The library is located at 4 Cohen Circle in the Village of Florida.
