First family of folk to play at the Harvest Moon Folk festival

Warwick - The Warwick Valley Winery and Distillery will host its annual Harvest Moon Wine and Folk Festival on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 9-10. The festival is an annual event at the winery marking the start of apple season and autumn harvest. The folk festival features a blend on national recording folk artists as well as many local musicians. Sarah Lee Guthrie, daughter of Arlo and granddaughter of Woody, will be on the winery stage along with her husband Johnny Irion, on Saturday, Sept. 9, around 2 p.m. The duo will play a blend of folk and rock with great harmonies guided by Irion’s guitar work. They will be followed by folk musician Mark Erelli, who has the reputation as one of today’s best young singer/songwriters. He wears his heart on his sleeve, weaving tales of honest and true passion. Also playing Saturday are Terrence Martin, John Sheehan, Project Mercury, Larry Amato Chrissy Roberts and Pete Barrett. Susan Werner will be headlining on Sunday in her first visit to the winery. Her sultry vocals make her music pure poetry. Preceding Werner on the winery stage is Red Molly, the female trio who have graced the Winery stage twice before with their exuberant and fun country folk style. Rounding out the festival lineup for Sunday is Boris Garcia, The Flying Hooky Dookys, local stars Mike and Suzy and Perfect Angle. “This year’s lineup is fantastic” said co-sponsor WFUV program director John Platt. The winery has worked with WFUV for the past three years and various radio personalities have appeared to host the day’s festivities. Wine tastings, hard cider, and fruit brandies as well as food, and soft drinks will be available all weekend at the winery. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets but no coolers. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. For more information about the festival or to purchase tickets, call 845-258-4858 or check the winery’s Web site at www.wvwinery.com.
