Film series begins Jan. 11

WARWICK — “Paving New Paths: Inspirational Women” is the theme of the winter installment of Albert Wisner Public Library’s Second Friday Film Series.
The program will be offered throughout the year on the second Friday of the month, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The screenings are held in the library’s community room. After the screenings, share your thoughts about themes, character and plot during the discussion led by Mary Krauze.

Here’s the schedule and titles:
Jan. 11: “The Long Walk Home”
Whoopi Goldberg and Sissy Spacek star as women, one black and the other white, in 1955 Montgomery, Alabama, who must decide what they are going to do in response to the famous bus boycott led by Martin Luther King Jr. The 1990 film is rated PG.
Feb. 8: “Freedom Writers”
A young teacher inspires her class of at-risk students to learn tolerance, apply themselves and pursue education beyond high school. This 2007 film featuring Hilary Swank and Patrick Dempsey is rated PG-13.
March 8: “Erin Brokovich “
An unemployed single mother becomes a legal assistant and almost single-handedly brings down a California power company accused of polluting a city’s water supply. This 2000 film with Julia Roberts and Albert Finney is rated R.
