'Farm Fest' set for next weekend

WARWICK — The Warwick Summer Arts Festival’s Farm Fest celebrates the partnership of Warwick's farms and villages with music, dance and film next weekend from Friday, July 13, through Sunday, July 15.
Concerts include three bands from Brooklyn, each hailing from a different cultural tradition woven and revved up with contemporary influences. Additional events include dance, film and theater. Here's a rundown on the schedule:
Friday, July 13, 7:30 p.m. Scheuermann Farm and Greenhouses, 73 Little York Road, off of County Route 1 in Pine Island.
Matuto: Brazilian Carnival meets the Appalachian mountains.
Linda Mensch, Warwick choreographer and artistic director of the Moving Company Modern Dance Center, will premier her short film, “Warwick Dances.”
Inspired by one too many conversations with friends that have said, “I don't dance” or, “I used to dance,” Mensch began inviting friends to strut their stuff, if only for a few moments, on film. The result is funny, touching and will make you want to join in.
Saturday, July 14, 7:30 p.m. Stanley Deming Park
Zongo Junction West African Afro-beat with a contemporary soul.
Isis Movement Company premieres a new dance work
The festival creates a stage at the Village of Warwick's Stanley Deming Park for a 7:30 concert with Zongo Junction, a 12-piece band that blends West African rhythms with funk, jazz and soul. The group's inspiration is Nigerian superstar, political activist and Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
Meanwhile, the Isis Movement Company has created a new performance work as part of Saturday night's events. The company, founded in 2009 and based in Brooklyn, is co-directed by Marcela Alvarez and Melissa Padham.
Sunday, July 15, 7 p.m. Scheuermann Farm and Greenhouses
Ilusha Tsinadze Deda Ena, influenced by Ilusha's native Georgia (the country, not the state), ancient folk traditions blend with contemporary beats.
The festival returns to Scheuermann Farm and Greenhouses to hear the music of Ilusha Tsinadze's Deda Ena at 7 p.m.. The music brings mountain songs and village dances into conversation with the global city, featuring blazing fiddle solos, African and Brazilian percussion and soulful singing.
