Chester — Patricia Edwards Clyne will give a talk and sign copies of her book “Hudson Valley Faces and Places” at the annual meeting of the Chester Historical Society on Sunday, Jan. 21, at the Erie Railroad Station-Museum, located at 19 Winkler Place in downtown Chester. Copies of the book will be available for purchase. Clyne’s program, which begins at 2:30 p.m. is free and open to the public. Clyne’s book also documents the connections to the Hudson Valley shared by everyone from Ulysses S. Grant to Ed Wood. It includes short essays about the little-known sites and the remarkable chapters in the lives and legends of Thomas Edison, Harriet Tubman, James Garfield, James Fenimore Cooper, and dozens more — over 50 — including Santa Claus. Clyne is also the author of “Hudson Valley Tales and Trails.” “This book actually makes me want to take my next vacation in New York State,” a reviewer at Amazon.com wrote about Clyne’s earlier book. “Stories about Tom Quick the Avenger, Mark Twain on the Hudson, the Ramapo Cowboy and ‘Mad’ Anthony Wayne bring the place alive in way that my childhood visit to Fort Henry never did. The stories are fascinating no matter where you read them, but Clyne’s tales make a few weeks wandering around the Hudson, book in hand, sound quite appealing.”
