Sugar Loaf — Eric Burdon and The Animals, a 60’s rock n’ roll band, will appear at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12, at the Lycian Centre for the Performing Arts in Sugar Loaf. Burdon’s life has been a musical journey matched by few other performers. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member was the driving force of a gritty British Invasion band; pioneered in the San Francisco psychedelic rock scene; fronted for WAR, the biggest funk band of the 70’s; and cut an LP with jazz-blues great Jimmy Witherspoon. In the 60’s, The Animals recorded and released an electrified version of the traditional folk number, “The House of the Rising Sun.” They followed with such classics as “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood,” “We Gotta Get Out Of This Place,” “Bring It On Home To Me” and “See See Rider.” Burdon and The Animals got together to record a reunion album “Before We Were So Rudely Interrupted,” after which Burdon appeared in several European films, then reunited with The Animals for more world touring. He also recorded “Sixteen Tons” for the soundtrack to Tom Hanks’ feature film “Joe Versus The Volcano.” In 1994, The Animals were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Burdon has again reunited The Animals for a world tour and the release of a new series of live CDs. The band includes Burdon, Eric McFadden on guitar, Paula O’Rourke on bass, Red Young on keyboard and Wally Ingram on drums. Tickets to the concert, produced by Kings Theatre Company, are $36 for adults and $27 for youth 18 years and younger.
