Eric Burdon and the Animals in concert at the Lycian Center

Sugar Loaf Kings Theatre Company will present Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame legend Eric Burdon and the Animals at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 30, at the Lycian Center for the Performing Arts in Sugar Loaf. The concert was originally scheduled in February, but was rescheduled due to weather. As the lead singer of the Animals, Burdon was one of the British Invasion’s distinctive vocalists, with a searing blues-rock voice. In the 1960’s, the band took the music world by storm when they released an electrified version of the traditional folk song, “The House of the Rising Sun.” They followed with such classics as “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood,” “We Gotta Get Out Of This Place,” “The Story of Bo Diddley,” and “See See Rider.” Burdon went from being the driving force of the gritty British Invasion band, to pioneering the San Francisco psychedelic rock scene, to fronting the funk band WAR in the 1970’s, to cutting a record with jazz-blues great Jimmy Witherspoon, to coming full circle and reuniting his original band for a world-wide tour, and releasing a new series of CDs. Burdon’s newest collaboration features material from the classic Animals song list, as well as new material that defines a distinct new sound. Tickets are $36 for adults and $27 for youth under 19.
