Ending conflict can begin with mediation training

    Newburgh — Basic Mediation Training will be offered by the Dispute Resolution Center from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, July 10 to 14, at the Newburgh Extension of SUNY Orange at One Washington Center. The 30-hour-plus course is appropriate for community leaders, educators, professionals in the private and public sectors, business people, and anyone who wants to gain an understanding of conflict, develop effective communication skills, and become proficient in utilizing the mediation process. After successfully completing the course, trainees interested in court, community, family and business mediation may elect an apprenticeship with the Dispute Resolution Center. The center is a private, not-for-profit organization serving the community as a resource for resolving disputes. It has been providing alternative dispute resolution programs and services since its inception in 1982, and now serves four counties. No prerequisite training or degree is required. Tuition is $450 per person, or $750 for attorneys seeking C.L.E. credit, which includes the training manual and materials, and light refreshments.
