Easter Week Services
Goshen The First Presbyterian Church, at 33 Park Place in Goshen will be holding the following services during the week before Easter, led by the pastor, Rev. David Calvin Kingsley. A Maundy Thursday Service at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, will include a short drama of the Last Supper and Holy Communion. The Gospel of Mark implies that the meal Jesus was sharing with his disciples was the Passover meal, or Seder. This year, Passover starts on this Thursday. A Good Friday Tenebrae Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 14. Dating back to the seventh or eighth century, Tenebrae, meaning darkness or shadows, is a Biblical service, with every word taken verbatim from the scriptures. It is characterized by the successive extinguishing of candles as the service progresses, until the last candle, the Christ Candle, is removed for a time, symbolizing Jesus’s death and burial. The sanctuary is left in silence. An Easter Day Sunrise Service will be held at 7 a.m. on Sunday, April 16. The service will follow the “Stations of the Cross,” outdoors on church grounds. Breakfast will be served afterwards in fellowship hall. The Easter Day Worship Service will be offered at 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 16, with a “Witness to the Resurrection.” A special coffee hour will follow in the fellowship hall.
