Early Warwick portraits sought

Have you seen this painting of the Wisner sisters by local portrait artist Milton McConnell? At one time, the portrait hung in the Pelton family homestead on Route 1; from there its whereabouts are unknown. The Historical Society of the Town of Warwick has been researching McConnell’s work. Born in 1819 or 1820 in Amity, McConnell pursued a career as a portrait artist and, according to the research of Grace Bennett in the 1950’s, he painted many local people. The Historical Society is seeking the owners of those portraits in the hopes of adding photographs of them for the society’s collection. If you have an early Warwick portrait that may be his work, contact Sue Gardner via e-mail sgardner@rcls.org, or leave a message at the society’s archive office, 986-5987.
