Drama club to present My Fair Lady'

Warwick The Warwick Valley Middle School Drama Club, under the direction of Noreen Hanson, will present Lerner & Loewe’s “My Fair Lady” on Friday and Saturday, March 31 and April 1, at the Warwick Valley High School theater. This is the 50th anniversary of the musical’s debut on Broadway, and the drama club has been working since November to bring their rendition to the stage, striving for accuracy to the time period of 1912 Edwardian England, through costumes, sets, and vernacular. The cast members have been studying with dialect tapes, and the costume mistress has done hours of research, all in an effort to accurately portray the characters and atmosphere of the time. A musical take on George Bernard Shaw’s 1913 comedy, “Pygmalion,” “My Fair Lady” is the story of Eliza Doolittle, a poor flower seller, who crosses paths with Henry Higgins, a self-centered, boorish phonetician. Higgins boasts that he can make a lady out of Doolittle and pass her off as a duchess at an Embassy Ball. A musical comedy ensues as Higgins tries to mold the strong-willed Eliza into a proper lady. Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 31, and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 1. Tickets are $8, or $7 for students and senior citizens.
