Pine Island — The large, elegant white house on the corner of Liberty Corners Road and Gurda Lane, Pine Island, will be the venue for the annual Drowned Lands Historical Society cocktail hour social on Thursday, July 28, at 6 p.m. The event is open to the public. There will be tours and a discussion of the history of the building led by historical society president, John Ruszkiewicz, who owns and lives in the house. He and his wife Anne have been restoring the structure on and off for more than 30 years. Ruszkiewicz is creating for the social a brochure that will include a 1797 deed to the property, census information about the early occupants, and a photo of the house in the early 1900s. The event, a fund raiser for the historical society, will be catered by Heather Kurosz of Black Dirt Gourmet, part of W. Rogowski Farms of Pine Island. The fee of $10 a head will be taken at the door. Everyone interested in the history of the area is invited to attend. For more information, contact Ruszkiewicz at 258-4359 or jronion@msn.com.
